Flying over Haiti in 1978

In 1978 I was on a 2-week military exchange program to the military academy of Dominican Republic. The aircraft landed in Port au Prince before proceeding on to Santo Domingo. Flying over Haiti one notices that the land is fairly denuded of trees. The border with Dominican Republic is clearly seen as the Dominican side of the island is wooded.
