When I was still into modeling, I loved doing the DD and DE classes. There are so many more now.

I've a couple dozen kits of sorts in the 1/700 range, including numerous aircraft sets. All awaiting the time I can(with aid of magnifying lamp) assemble them. Along with some dioramas in mind, toying with doing some "modified" four-pipers, similar to the Campbeltown. For example, the APD versions, or similar.

... I would really enjoy seeing photos of your models too? Just to clarify, I mean model kits, i.e. Airfix, Tamiya, Trumpeter etc., not the curvaceous gals of your retinue!

Four Piper Basic and Modifications - I

... but pleasantly surprised by the high quality of casting on this @ 5 1/2" long model DD along with the photo-etched 'brass' details included - standard railings, ladders, towers, antennae, etc. This is a very excellent buy and a five + star kit.
I happen to have bought four (yes, 4!), so the package on doorstep was even more rewarding a factor~multiplier ...
Plans are to make~kit bash* the following:
1) Basic Kit of the U.S.S. Ward, DD 139, per Pearl Habor attack day status.
2) DE 1XX = "kit bash" where aft pair of torpedo launchers and midship 4" guns are replaced with Aft depth charge racks/launchers and twin 40mm and 4x single 20mm guns/tubs to better serve (with least modification) an convoy~escort AA/ASW dominate role. *
3) An APD version, my design idea to modify the historical version, "kit-bashing" with parts once can find or make Landing Craft and Davits.
4) An APDL(A) = (Fast)Transport Destroyer Landing (Assault-Attack) ship.
This is a variant of the HMS Cambletown version hwere the vessel is not intended to be expended, rather re-used as a fast lander of attacking "specisl forces"= Commandos, Rangers, Marines, etc. Basically no torps or mid 4" guns, replaced with 40mm and 20mm along with ramps/cargo nets for de-boarding once "landed" at a beach or pier/portside debarkation point. A very "modified" kit-bash of sorts.
* along with a couple of special modified kits of the St. Naziere raid Cambletown kit, should have most of the parts to use/copy for this project.
